Happy Halloween!

My Halloween creation:

Can't tell what it is? I'll give you a hint:
Happy Halloween, y'all!!

Starkville - Home away from home

We had an AMAZING weekend in Starkville! (this was my first weekend in Starkville since 2006!!) Can I just say that I have missed that town and these ladies WAY too much?

We had a wonderful dinner at Anthony's on Friday night. We went to Mugshots and the Bistro after that. If you don't already know this, the Bistro was my FAVORITE bar in college. Sadly, it closed my Junior year. But guess what? It's back, and as fun as ever! We, older, more mature women totally snuck in the side door to avoid the LONG lines of college kids! Just like old times. I was so happy to spend some quality time with Ali, Linds, Kelly, and Jennifer (and of course the Hubby) on the balcony at the Bistro. Later, Leslie showed up, and it was fabulous to see that girl!

On Saturday, Patrick and I ate breakfast at City Bagel (a favorite) and took a tour of campus and Starkville. Boy, has that town changed. I didn't even recognize parts of campus. It was totally surreal. We got a chance to go by the SAE house, but we didn't get to go by the Phi Mu house. : ( Maybe next time! (We have promised each other we are going to start going to Starkville more often. Up next - the Egg Bowl!!!) Anyways, after walking around EVERYWHERE, we ate at Mugshots and did a little shopping downtown. We finally made it back to campus and tailgated for the rest of the afternoon. It was so much fun! I was on the front row of the "Dog Walk" and it was awesome - I got to give all of the players high fives! Definitely an amazing experience. The game started at 6:30, so 6:00 came really fast and we were rushing to get into the stadium. Let me tell you - it is NOT as easy as it used to be to sit in the Student Section. We had to "borrow" student IDs and purple wristbands all evening! I guess that's what you get for being married and graduated and still trying to sit in the Student Section! Luckily, we finally made it in and got situated. Soon after, the guy sitting next to us, who is slightly drunk, takes a turn for the worse. He stands up, stumbles down the stairs, and almost falls off the balcony. Luckily, there was someone there to catch him - a cop!! Not a good night for that kid! Not an hour later, the guy sitting on the other side of us SLAPS the guy sitting in front of me. The slapped accidentally burned the slapper's girlfriends coat with a cigarette. Let me tell you - no more Student Section for this married woman! Either way, the game was amazing!

Oh yeah, and did you notice I got a haircut? It was time for a change!

Peace!

Hubby-isms

Let me just say, I haven't seen my husband in about a week and a half. We have both been so busy with school, and in and out, we have barely had enough time to have a conversation. Well, he finished school yesterday and has a week off before he starts his last class in nursing school! Woohoo! Anyways, he was so sweet and woke up and took me to school this morning. On the car ride here we had some time to talk. When we are almost to school, this is what he says to me:

"Don't put all your piggies in the blanket"

I said, "Baby, don't you mean 'Don't put all your eggs in one basket'?"

That kid never stops cracking me up. And is it wierd that I knew exactly what he was trying to say?

I love and miss that boy!

A Chorus Line

I am so blessed to have a wonderful mom that buys me season tickets to the Orpheum every year. Usually it is me, my mom, my grandmother, and my aunt. It is always a great way for us to spend quality time together.

Last night, Patrick was lucky enough to use my grandmothers ticket, and we went to see "A Chorus Line".

For those of you who have never seen it, it is an audition within a play that takes place in the 1970s. And let me tell you, it is SO 1970s. The dancing, the costumes, the music, everything! It all took place on the same set, which can be a little unexciting, but there was great character development to keep us on our toes. The last show Patrick and I went to was "Wicked," and let me tell you, he was blown away. I was definitely worried that he was gonna be ready to leave half way through "A Chorus Line," because it was so visually un-stimulating. It was definitely different than what I usually enjoy. Don't get me wrong, I thought it was good, I just wasn't blown away.

It was definitely nothing compared to my favorite:

Birthday blues

Yes, I turned 25 today, and I am at school studying ALL DAY - are you surprised? Why does 25 feel like the end of my life as I know it? Is it possible that it is because I have spent the last year with only one thing on my mind - medical school?

The scariest thing is that by the time 30 gets here, it's quite possible that nothing will have changed. Yes, we will probably be in a different city, own a house, and *maybe* have a kid - but won't I be in the same place - spending day after day working endlessly at a goal that wont be fulfilled until I'm 35?

Can you tell that this birthday thing is really getting to me? Oh well, as they say, it's my party, and I WILL cry if I want to!

My turn!

Finish these sentences...
Maybe I should...go home or get back to studying
My ex is
...living a life completely different from mine

I love.
..that I always have someone to depend on

People would say that I am...obsessive
I don't understand...why the geniuses who developed the calendar didn't add one more day to the weekend
When I wake up in the morning
...I go back to sleep...at least 5 times

I have lost
...all sense of time

Life is full of
...disappointments, but in the end it will work out

My past has taught me
...that you can't always get what you want when you want it

I get annoyed...when my bed is unmade
Parties are
...not as fun as you hoped they would be. I know, I'm boring!

I wish...I could eat anything I wanted
Dogs
...I can't imagine life without them

Cats...I will probably never have one because Patrick is allergic
Tomorrow is
...the day before my exam! EEEK!

I have a low tolerance for
...repetitive noises

If I had a million dollars
...I would still finish medical school

I've come to realize that my last kiss
...probably infected the Hubby with this bug I have

I am listening to
...the sound of book pages turning, as people around me are studying

I talk...in a really high-pitched voice when I'm nervous
My friends...are very understanding of my situation, and always there for me when I'm available My first real kiss...was on the 4-square lot in front of a bunch of people
Love is... so much more than romantic dates and flowers
Marriage is
...something you have to work at everyday, but in the end it is so worth it
Somewhere, someone is thinking...about something far more interesting than Cardiovascular Pathology
I'll always...take baths, even when I'm old and need help getting out
The last time I really cried
...was for the same reason I always cry these days - school

My cell phone is
...actually a really small computer

Before I go to bed...I always take a bath
Right now I am thinking about...how I'm going to fit all this studying into the next 48 hours Babies...seem to be popping-up in my dreams every night
Today I
...am feeling very sick

I really want to
...take my test right now so I can go home and relax for 4 days

Wedding festivities begin!

Dave, a good friend from school, and his fiancee Susan are getting married on July 10 in Destin. We went to a BBQ couples shower for them yesterday, and it was so fun. Susan is so adorable and always keeps me entertained, and I love her! I know they are going to be a great married couple - they have been dating for 8 YEARS!!!! So, congratulations and best wishes to Dave and Susan! Here are a couple of pictures from the shower. PS: that is my bow bouquet creation!

Kassa village of Jos, Plateau State, Nigeria

I recently returned from a medical missions trip to Nigeria, Africa. It was an absolutely amazing experience that I will never forget! We flew into Abuja and traveled to Jos (where we stayed a night) and finally ended in Zing (where we had our medical project for 5 days). While in Jos, we visited the Kassa village, where a riot had left most of the men dead, leaving many widows and orphans. We delivered food and clothing to the women and children, and it was an unforgetable experience. Here are a few pictures from this adventure:

Many of the women listening to a speech on why we are visiting:
Children professing their love and belief in God:
Some of the sweet mothers: My friend from school (Dave) and Kaio passing out food:

Hope you enjoyed, and there will be more from my trip soon!

Peace! -Alicia

Is this ok?

So, I've heard that you shouldn't start blogging until you have children (thanks to my etiquette know-it-all, Jenna). We know that this will not happen for us for a long time, so does that make premature blogging ok? I can't keep everyone updated on our life anymore, so perhaps this is the best way to do it. For all my friends already blogging out there, I'm excited to be joining you, and hope you're as interested in my life as I am in yours! ; ) Peace and happy blogging! -Alicia
